Host Profile: Andrew Keast

What's the name of your show? Steady On

What's your show about and when does it air?  "Steady On" is presented every Wednesday evening, from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. While the show is comprised primarily of conversations between myself and my guests, there is considerable diversity in the focus of these discussions -- a natural result of the diversity in the characteristics that define the guests. I also like to announce local events, programs and projects that might be of interest to the audience, and I usually share a few pieces of music during the show as well.

Is there a story behind your on-air name?   Andrew Keast (No story, there!)

How long has your show been on the air? Since July 27, 2017

Tell us about a funny incident that happened during your show.  While the conversations held on this show always thrill and otherwise please me in any number of ways, I'm afraid nothing "funny" comes to mind . . .

What do you like to do in your spare time?  As a highly casual auditor, I enjoy music and literature, and I'm always happy to fall into conversation.

If you knew you were going to be stranded on a desert island, what are 10 of the songs you'd want with you?

  1. "Electricity" by Joni Mitchell
  2. "Nobody Knows Me" by Lyle Lovett
  3. "Armistice Day" by Paul Simon
  4. "A Heart Needs a Home" by Richard and Linda Thompson
  5. "Dear Prudence" by The Beatles
  6. "My Last Affair" by Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Quincy Jones et al
  7. "Close to Me" (from Mixed Up, 1990) by the Cure
  8. "Left of the Dial" by the Replacements
  9. "Baby Can I Hold You" by Tracy Chapman
  10. "Me in Honey" by R.E.M. (with Kate Pierson of the B-52's)

What is one of your most memorable concert experiences?  Beethoven's 9th Symphony, performed by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with the Choral Union of Ann Arbor's University Musical Society and led by Leonard Slatkin in May of 2017.

Tell us something about yourself that people might find surprising.  I can speak a little Korean. In the summer of 2001, I spent a few weeks on the road, driving a 1976 Pontiac Astre to the west coast and back. Also, comic books fascinate me, I've held dozens of jobs, over the years -- and by my consumption of two and a half burritos from the 2 lb "el Gordo" category, I once emerged victorious from a highly competitive event held at Panchero's in E. Lansing.

In the movie "WKUF: The Untold Story", who would you cast as yourself?  Maybe John Malkovich or Mike Farrell (B.J. Hunnicutt on M*A*S*H)
