WKUF Helps to Revitalize Flint

On 5/10/14, members of the WKUF staff volunteered at the Main Street Matters event in Flint. Main Street Matters was launched by Benjamin Moore Paints last year in an effort to remake cities across North America. Flint, MI was one of 20 cities selected. Today is Duran Duran Appreciation Day

While looking up happenings for August 10th in a book I have called Chase's Calendar of Events, I learned that today is Duran Duran Appreciation Day. According to the book, "This is the day for everyone to enjoy the underrated beauty of '80s rock icons, Duran Duran."

One source claims that National Duran Duran Appreciation Day is celebrated on August 10th because, on that date in 1985, lead singer Simon Le Bon survived a near fatal accident when his yacht capsized during a 608 mile race. The band acknowledges National Duran Duran Appreciation Day on their official website and there's also a Facebook page as well. So if you want to take part in the celebration, you can start by checking out D2's video to their debut single (1981's "Planet Earth").
