Host Profile: Great Scott

What's the name of your show?  Spotlight (this show was formerly known as "Pop the Bubble").

What's your show about and when does it air? Usually we (me and my co-host Spindash) will pick a theme for the week's show and play songs, skits, or little tidbits that are connected. Our show is on Wednesdays from 3:30 pm to 5 pm. You can also reach us via our Facebook page

Is there a story behind your on-air name?  My middle name is Scott and I just happen to be Great.

How long has your show been on the air? Since the summer of 2016

Tell us about a funny incident  that happened during your show. That first show struggle of figuring out how to fill an hour slot.

What do you like to do in your spare time? Camping, watching movies, relaxing and napping

Have you gotten any funny calls during your show? People apparently don't like to call in during our show

Tell us something about yourself that people might find surprising. "This kid talks" I tend to be a quiet person...except when I get to know a person, then I don't shut up.

In the movie "WKUF: The Untold Story", who would you cast as yourself? Nick Offerman

Host Profile: J.L. Massimino

What's the name of your show? The J.L. Massimino Show

What's your show about and when does it air? Exposing listeners to music that I like. My tastes are all over the place and while my show typically plays "alternative" music, I enjoy playing whatever is in my brain that week. It airs Wednesdays from 9 pm to 11 pm. If you've missed any of my shows or just want to hear them again, please visit my Mixcloud page.

Is there a story behind your on-air name?  J.L. - my initials. My family has always called me J.L. - there were way too many people named Jack in my family and they didn't want me to be saddled with the name "Little Jack" for my entire life. J.L. sounds like a fake radio name so it works!

How long has your show been on the air? April 27, 2016 was my first show.

Tell us about a funny incident that happened during your show. The Improv Club meets during the first hour of my show so I learned pretty quickly to keep the studio door closed; a loud scene startled me before a talk break on my first show!

What do you like to do in your spare time? My wife, son and I spend time at home, catching up on our always too full DVR when we aren't busy going to concerts or doing things around Flint. I try to make time to hang in Detroit with my brother as often as our busy schedules permit. I have a driveway full of cars so something's usually in need of repair. Music is almost always on, either old favorites or something new, because silence is a real bummer.

Have you gotten any funny calls during your show? One time someone called in a request for a song from Glee. Yes, I watched the show but no, I don't really want to hear any of the songs from it again.

What is one of your most memorable concert experiences? I've been fortunate to have gone to over 100 concerts in the last decade-plus and have had many memorable experiences. One of the craziest was October 5, 2015 in Detroit. My brother and I had seen Kraftwerk once before, in 2005, and it was an amazing show. They came through again on their 3D tour and put on a visually stunning show at the Masonic Temple. Afterward, my brother and I drove over to MOCAD for the after party. The party was insane - the founders of Detroit techno (Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson) all did DJ sets and then - THEN! - Kraftwerk arrived. They spent some time in the DJ booth and then just hung around the crowd. We got to stand a few feet from one of the most influential electronic musicians in the world! It's a night my brother and I will never forget.

Tell us something about yourself that people might find surprising. I still prefer and purchase physical media (CDs, vinyl, cassettes) to digital media. The convenience of mp3s and streaming is nice, but the fidelity just isn't there.

In the movie "WKUF: The Untold Story", who would you cast as yourself? Steve-O, only because I look somewhat like him.

Host Profile: DJ Grand AM

What is the name of your show? What is That?!

What is your on air name? Is there a story behind it?  DJ Grand AM. I used to be DJ Donnie but, one day at work, I lost my keys. I described them having a fob that said "Grand AM" on the side. I recieved a response from a co-worker that said "What is that? Your Funky DJ name?"

What's your show about and when does it air? My show is about finding a root in music. That's why it's labeled in a funny way. I didn't expect it to become popular and so far I have been right. The main reason I didn't expect it to was because I play such a strange variety at times that it's hard to like everything. Which is why my slogan is "You are listening to 'What is That?!' whether you say it in disgust or amazement, you heard it here!"  Tuesdays from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

How long has your show been on the air? My show first aired in 2012, when I was a student at Kettering. After a lengthy hiatus, I am back! My show returns to WKUF on 10/10/17.

What do you like to do in your spare time? Play piano, listen to music, and play video games.

Tell us about a funny incident that happened during your show. Steven played with a fork, a monkey, and some butter at the same time and managed to electrocute himself.

Have you gotten any strange requests during your show? Celene Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" to be played for a man's dog who died a few years ago.

If you knew you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could choose only 10 songs, what would they be? Take on Me - A-ha, Daft Punk's Entire Discovery album. Pick and choose (I know it's more than 10)

What is one of your most memorable concert experiences? Seeing Tans Siberian Orchesta live.

Tell us something about yourself that people might find surprising.
I don't hate the Beatles but I don't like them either.

In the movie "WKUF: The Untold Story", who would you cast as yourself? Tim Roth
