DJ Grand AM / Community DJ
Former host of What is That?!
Is there a story behind your on air name? ? I used to be DJ Donnie but, one day at work, I lost my keys. I described them having a fob that said “Grand AM” on the side. I received a response from a co-worker that said “What is that? Your Funky DJ name?”
What was your show about? My show was about finding a root in music. That’s why it’s labeled in a funny way. I didn’t expect it to become popular and so far I have been right. The main reason I didn’t expect it to was because I play such a strange variety at times that it’s hard to like everything. Which is why my slogan is “You are listening to ‘What is That?!’ whether you say it in disgust or amazement, you heard it here!”
How long was your show on the air? My show first aired in 2012, when I was a student at Kettering. My show returned to WKUF on 10/10/17 and aired until 2018.
What do you like to do in your spare time? Play piano, listen to music, and play video games.
Tell us about a funny incident that happened during your show. Steven played with a fork, a monkey, and some butter at the same time and managed to electrocute himself.
Have you gotten any strange requests during your show? Celene Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” to be played for a man’s dog who died a few years ago.
If you knew you were going to be stranded on a desert island and could choose only 10 songs, what would they be? Take on Me – A-ha, Daft Punk’s Entire Discovery album. Pick and choose (I know it’s more than 10)
What is one of your most memorable concert experiences? Seeing Trans Siberian Orchestra live.
Tell us something about yourself that people might find surprising. I don’t hate the Beatles, but I don’t like them either.
In the movie “WKUF: The Untold Story”, who would you cast as yourself? Tim Roth
